In this first part, we are going to go over how to transition from the Story mode of Path of Exile into the Endgame as well as give a basic outline of what currently exists within it.
It will almost be in the same vein as my Beginners Guide, but now for the more advanced Endgame! Now of course, Path of Exile is a constantly evolving game, so there will be many changes and additions to the Endgame over time. With this series setup, I hope to be able to be both adding more guides over time and adjust existing ones as time goes on.
I would also like to deeply thank Karvarousku for all his help on these guides! He is truly the man with all of the information on hidden mechanics of not only the Atlas, but every other portion of the game. There you will be treated to a full lecture on your inquiry along with endless examples!
If you wish to get a snip-it of information, you can follow him on his Twitter where he is forced to keep it short and sweet! Finally, if you are really in need of direct contact, you can join his Discord to hassle him directly. Once you have worked your way into the later acts of Path of Exile, you will begin to see special items named Maps being dropped from monsters.
Maps are small, self contained items that can be crafted on with most all currencies, but only used in a special Map Device once you have completed the story.
Path of Exile's next update revamps the endgame and lets you design your own boss fights
So for now, just hold onto all of these until you reach the end of the story! Once you reach the end of the story, you will then talk with Zana in the Epilogue. She will start you on your endgame journey with a main questline. Zana is a prominent and important feature of the Endgame, and due to this, I will be examining her further within her own guide!
For now, Zana will start by directing you to the Templar Laboratory which houses the special Map Device. A Map is an item that opens 6 portals to another zone when activated in a Map Device the location of the map within the device sockets does not affect the activation. This zone is full of regular monsters of different varieties, along with a Boss sometimes numerous Bosses! All of which drop items, currency and more maps, letting you perpetuate through the endgame!
The monsters and drops within these zones can be modified and customized by crafting the map item with currency prior to activating it in the Map Device.
Crafting will add more affixes to the map based on rarity with the same rules as regular Items. Maps come in many different tiers which dictate their zone levels and affix tiers that can be crafted on them, similar to item level on gear.Consider helping out in updating the wiki for 3. The Atlas of Worlds is Path of Exile 's end-game map system.
The Atlas is a series of linked maps that players can progress through after completing a quest for Officer Kirac. The Atlas of Worlds is a visualization of the dream worlds that are opened by activating maps, indicating how these worlds are linked. The player starts at one of four starting maps in the center of the Atlas. These tier 1 maps start dropping on Act 8. Players can find new maps in adjacent, connected maps in the Atlas.
Map drops are not completely random; instead, a specific tier is chosen first and the map type is chosen from a pool of maps completed for that tier or connected to the map the character is currently in.
The Atlas is split into 8 different regions, each affecting a Watchstone or Conqueror's area of influence and what item bases can drop. For each map completed under certain conditions, you gain an Atlas completion Bonus. The maximum map tier, however, cannot bypass drop restrictions, even if it would have been upgraded . Special areas like Map fragment zones also do not add others Atlas completion. The Awakening Level of your Atlas is the number of Watchstones you have socketed, divided by 4, and rounded down.
Awakening Levels increase the difficulty of all maps, but grant bonuses to item drops. It also enables Awakened Atlas completion bonuses at higher levels, granting further bonuses to map drops. Awakened Atlas completion bonuses are acquired by completing the map at a certain Awakening Level or higher. In order to complete an Awakening Bonus Objective, it is merely required to finish the map at it's maximum tier while it is influenced by four Watchstones, while the Awakening Level requirement is met.
Rarity or corruption of the map is irrelevant. Each time you complete a map, there is a chance to receive an Atlas Mission for a random master. You can use Atlas Missions to guarantee a master to spawn in your next non-unique map. Your Atlas Mission counters are tracked for each set of map tier colours: white, yellow, and red; which one you receive is the same as the tier colour of the map you received it in. Your accumulated number of Atlas Missions can be seen in the Atlas layout screen.
There is no limit to how many Atlas Missions you can store. You can redeem an Atlas mission by speaking to a master then running the map from that screen. Free Atlas missions refresh at midnight UTC. The new end-game Atlas quest introduced in Conquerors of the Atlas requires the player to track down and defeat different Conquerors in order to fight the end-game boss The Awakener.
The first step in spawning the 4 Conquerors is to reach the 4 corners of the Atlas. In this process, you may discover Zana as well as different Conquerors' Citadels which contain Watchstones Altars. Players have to run 3 different maps from the same corner to spawn their first Conqueror. By this method, the lowest level encounters of Al-Hezmin, the HunterVeritania, the RedeemerDrox, the Warlord and Baran, the Crusader can be spawned without acquiring any Watchstones.
The second to fifth encounters of the same Conqueror require the player to upgrade a region of the Atlas. Players need to discover the Altar if applicable of that region and insert a minimum number of Watchstone s in it. Typically, the second encounter requires 1 Stone, the third requires 2 Stones, the fourth requires 3 Stones and the fifth requires 4 Stones inserted into the Watchstones Altars. Inserting Watchstones also increase the map Tier of that region.
Before the first encounter with the Awakener, a Conqueror is guaranteed to spawn if you have met:. If both conditions 1 and 2 are met, the Conqueror will spawn. Killing the Conqueror for the 4th time in 4 different regions will acquire the 4th Watchstone of that Conqueror.Path of Exile's developers just announced an expansion so big that it's practically a sequel even though it's still one game. But long before Path of Exile 2 arrives inthe game will continue pumping out new updates and temporary leagues for players to challenge, two of which are coming next month.
Path of Exile's 3. Currently, once players beat Path of Exile's campaign they set out to explore the Atlas of Worlds, a map of randomized alternate dimensions that go from mildly challenging to batshit insane. Once the new Conquerors of the Atlas expansion releases next month, the Atlas of Worlds will be significantly changed to present an even stiffer challenge. Path of Exile's endgame is enormously complicated and hard to explain, but the gist is that after defeating the original villains of the Atlas, the players themselves have become corrupted and now need to be put down.
To be clear, the character you will be playing isn't the boss, but Conqueror's of the Atlas adds five new endgame bosses that are based off the main character classes you choose. Like any Path of Exile update, there's going to be dozens of new changes and new items. One of the biggest is a complete rework of bows, including new skills and buffed damage. Bows will now be more viable as a weapon type, and abilities like Ensnaring Arrow, which prevents enemies from moving, will give bow users more options in a fight.
This new update will also introduce an optional new league called Metamorphosis. For the uninitiated, these temporary leagues force players to start new characters but offer fun new systems that remix the core gameplay in interesting ways. In this case, Metamorphosis introduces a new character named Tane Octavius who will periodically join you while you play. Tane will take DNA samples from monsters you kill, and once you have enough you can call on Tane to combine them to create your own boss battle.
Each DNA sample Tane collects will have different properties that will change what abilities this new boss has, with more powerful samples increasing your chances of getting more powerful rewards—assuming you can defeat your creation that is.

Stay tuned to our Atlas guide leading up to and throughout the release of Patch 3. Watchstones can be obtained by defeating the new Atlas bosses released in Conquerors of the Atlas. Rather than shaping an individual map to a higher tier, the Watchstones improve an entire area of the Atlas, occasionally unlocking new areas for you to explore.
The Conquerors of the Atlas are four new bosses that have been introduced to the game. Conquerors occupy regions of the Atlas and are randomly encountered as you enter maps.
Once a Conqueror is first encountered, they will no longer leave that region until they have been encountered several times. By speaking with Zana you will be able to access their citadels and engage them directly.
Once the four Conquerors have been defeated several times the player will be able to access the ultimate and fifth boss, Sirius the Awakener. Players who played during the original Atlas of Worlds and War for the Atlas expansions will find this system of four guardians and a final boss very similar to that of the Shaper and the Elder.
Sextants have been updated in Conquerors of the Atlas. In their place, three new types of Sextants exist:. Sextants are no longer applied to individual maps, influencing other maps within the radius. Instead, Sextants are now applied to the new Watchstonesaffecting all maps within the region that the Watchstone governs. The best strategy is currently to stack four Watchstones in a region as early as possible, providing you are able to handle the upgraded maps.
For each region of the Atlas that has four watchstones socketed your Awakening level is raised by 1. Not only does this allow you to access high level end-game maps early on for the best experience per hour, but raising your Awakening level has a variety of other benefits, such as additional map sustain and chance to obtain bonus loot.
Once you encounter an Elderslayer in one of the maps region you can also opt to move your Watchstones there. This will allow you to grind out the encounters at a level appropriate to your current progress, but will make the boss fights respectively more lethal.
You will want to set Watchstones in regions with desirable maps to grind. New Vastirfor example, has a high concentration of maps that have simple or dense layouts, making it a good choice for Watchstone placement early.
Lex Proxima and Glennach Cairns also have maps with a fair amount of excellent maps, including several with Divination Cards that allow you to sustain your grinding, such as The Survivalist from the Underground Sea Map. Ultimately, your Watchstone placement is personal preference. Choosing based on your own pleasure will result in a better game experience and keep a smile on your face through your many hours of progress towards reaching the Awakener.

Defeating the boss is not obligatory, but they drop more loot and grant more experience than regular map monsters. Defeating the boss is often the bonus objective for the Atlas of Worlds completion, with higher tiers requiring the map to be crafted in a certain way.
Map bosses are often based on unique monsters from the storyline. That monster's skills, visual model, or both, can be similar. The map boss does have a unique name. Below, all current map bosses are listed with their corresponding map and the unique monster they're based off.
